Confession: September and October kind of got away from me. I bet you couldn't guess that from my blog posting issues over the last couple months, could you? Between work and injuries and life in general, things got our of hand. Which leads me to...
Confession #2: Despite my best intentions, I gained a couple pounds back and became a little softer than I was at my 30 day mark of P90X3.
I could give you any number of excuses why things did not go my way, but the truth is, that's exactly what they would be: excuses. And excuses take all the control out of my hands. So no more excuses! In fact, I have dubbed this month as No Excuses November. Who's with me?
So what does that mean? It means I'm launching a campaign here on my blog, on Instagram, and on Facebook to take the excuses out of the month! Who wants to join in? Who is ready to finish the year off strong? The truth is, this is the HARDEST and BUSIEST time of the year! But as a community, we can make the next two months our strongest yet.
Have you ever felt like you had no idea where to even begin when it comes to health and fitness? There are so many options! For example, think of the many nutrition plans out there: low carb, no carb, clean eating, paleo, South Beach, Weight Watchers, balanced, IIFYM (if it fits your macros), just to name a few. Then consider the sheer number of exercise options: walking, running, weights, HIIT, yoga, pilates, swimming, or a combination of everything!
Whew, just typing that makes my head spin! It's easy to see how someone could be intimidated.
So how do you combat that? What do you choose? Which one is the "right" one?
It's easier than you might think. The right one is the one you will stick with. The right one is the one that makes the most sense for YOU. For me, the right one when it comes to nutrition tends to go along with the idea of IIFYM - which is why the 21 Day Fix works so well for me. But some people see the best results with strict clean eating. Some find low carb easier because if it's protein, it's ok. As far as fitness goes, what works for me is a mixture of both cardio and weights. I tend to get "bored" with the same old thing. Some people do best with a higher portion of weight training and a little bit of HIIT. Some prefer cardio.
It's all good. The trick is to just get started. Try SOMETHING. Don't make the mistake of not starting. The only thing that not starting will get you is the exact same thing you have now. Is that enough for you?
My guess is it's not, or you wouldn't still be reading.
Is your excuse that there are too many options? Too much to choose from? Maybe you don't know what you like. Maybe those terms I just threw out there were foreign, almost like a different language. I would highly encourage you, then, to reach out to me and allow me to help you choose what would be best for you - based on your goals, your current fitness level, and your current hobbies.
What about me? Well, I'm starting something new, too. I am still experiencing some pain and reduced strength in my ankle, so I have decided to finally put my copy of PiYo to good use. Come on increased flexibility and strength! And yes, in case you're wondering, I will still be using the 21 Day Fix as my nutrition plan. Like I said, it works best for me.
So what do I want from you? I want to hear what you are doing to get started. I want to hear how you are busting your excuses. All through the next month won't you join me in using the hashtag #NoExcusesNovember? Tag your pics on IG and your posts on facebook, and let's make this month into a movement! While you're at it, feel free to tag me on Facebook and Instagram at @jlfrisk.
