Shakeology - What Is It, and Why Do I Swear By It? (+ Dessert Recipes!)
Wednesday, December 18, 2013
First of all, I apologize that there was no post on Monday. Hubby was flying home from Canada, and he took precedence. That being said, let's get to it!
You've seen me post about Shakeology, but have you ever wondered what it was? I get tons of questions about the shakes - what they are, what they do, why I like them so much. I thought the best way to address those questions would be to simply write a post detailing those answers and more.
OK, so now that you've been warned, it's time for a little background: I got married when I was twenty years-old. Now, most twenty year-olds are chomping at the bit to jump into bed, right? Well, let's just say that I was not most twenty year-olds. Sex was just never my thing. Fast-forward ten years, and sex still wasn't my thing. My poor husband is a saint. I felt terrible about it, but I was never ever ever turned on. I tried to never withhold sex from him, but you can tell when someone just isn't into it, right? I had resigned myself to the fact that it would be that way forever....until after that magical three week period. Things changed. All I'll say is that it felt like a switch was flipped. It couldn't possibly be the Shakeology, could it? And that's where it gets interesting.
Doing a bit of research, I found that there's this little-known item in Shakeology that actually enhances libido and fertility: maca root. Ten years I waited for something to "wake me up" (doctor-prescribed pills, herbs, etc were of no use!) Ten years I waited to finally "discover" sex. Ten years. And then there was Shakeology. Let me tell you: even if there weren't a slew of other benefits to this shake, that one piece makes it worth any price. Fortunately, there ARE several other health benefits!!

So What Is Shakeology?
Shakeology is a meal replacement shake. But it's not *just* a shake. It is the most delicious, nutrient-dense, superfood-packed replacement shake on the planet. Shakeology’s the perfect combination of proteins, phytonutrients, antioxidants, enzymes, prebiotics, and probiotics. Plus, it also contains many rare ingredients, including adaptogens, camu-camu, and sacha inchi—things we can’t get from an ordinary diet.
- Curb cravings for sugar and junk food
- Promote healthy weight loss
- Increase energy levels
- Improve digestion and regularity
- Support your immune system
- Support cardiovascular health
Why We Need Shakeology:
Let’s face it, the American diet is terrible. Rarely do any of us eat enough fresh fruits
and vegetables; instead, we reach for what’s quick and easy—packaged food and
fast food—which have been so over-processed that their nutrients have long been
destroyed. The reality is, we’re running
our bodies on empty. And like a car, we need fuel to go. Good fuel. Not empty-calorie junk. When you start thinking of food as fuel, you
immediately realize how important Shakeology is in your daily diet. Because Shakeology is packed with the world’s
most potent, nutritious, and delicious ingredients, it’s the quickest and
easiest way to eat healthy, stay satisfied, and live a healthy life.
My Own Personal Experience:
At heart, I am cheap (or as I like to think, thrifty). The price tag on Shakeology was a bit of a
shock to me. I balked. I hesitated.
I decided it wasn’t for me. And
then I saw my coach getting healthier and healthier. And leaner.
And stronger. And I was staying
the same. I wanted in on her challenge
groups, but – like most coaches – she required the purchase of Shakeology so
that we would drink it EVERY DAY as one of our meals.
So guess what? I
caved. I bought the bag, fully intending
to quit drinking it as soon as possible after the challenge. After all, there’s no way it could possibly
be worth it, right? It’s just a way for
my coach to make money off of me, right?
Yes, I thought all of those things.
And I am going to tell you that I was wrong, dead wrong. I still drink it EVERY DAY, and I now know
why it is a requirement for a challenge group.
The first two weeks did nothing to change my mind. But then something happened right at the end
of the third week. I had more
energy. I was sleeping better. I just *felt* better. And then something truly remarkable
happened.
**WARNING**
This could very well fall into the category of too much
information, but it’s very near and dear to my heart. It deals with sex (not explicitly), so if
that makes you uncomfortable, I would suggest skipping to the next
section.
