Can'ts vs. Cans

Friday, September 26, 2014

I'm feeling a bit down today.  If you've been around a bit, you may remember that I am currently injured.  I'm trying to be positive, but I'll admit, today is a bit difficult in that regard.

Why?

  1. My plans to simply limit plyometrics have not gone as well as I'd hoped.  Turns out more hurts my foot than I expected.  I'm really missing getting all sweaty and exhausted!
  2. I was supposed to run another obstacle course race tomorrow morning, but obviously that's not happening.  I'm pretty bummed.
  3. Work is super stressful right now.  September 30 (the end of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' fiscal year) cannot come fast enough!
I'm feeling like there is a whole lot that I can't do.  I feel like I keep running into that word:  CAN'T.  Have you ever felt that way?  What do you do in those situations?  How do you feel?

I'm the type of person that gets discouraged at first - but the more I hear that I can't do something - or multiple somethings - the more determined and resolved I get.  So it's time to look at some of the "CANS."
  1. I can walk.  It may not be pretty, but I CAN walk.  I can even hobble quickly.  hehe
  2. So I can't go to my obstacle course race.  But I CAN go to Super Saturday, something I was bummed I couldn't attend (found out the date AFTER I registered for my run).  It's going to be awesome!
  3. I can be the best nurse informaticist I can be.  And I can help my hospital earn the money we need for Meaningful Use.
  4. I can be an example and help lead my team of coaches and challengers DESPITE my injury.  I can channel my injury into their successes.

So what about you?  What "can'ts" are you hitting up against?  What will you do about them?  How will you make them into cans?  Can I help you do it?  Let me know!
