Sometimes you just want a gourmet burger, you know? Or, actually, any burger...but a gourmet burger just sounds so much like an indulgence. Now, don't get me wrong, I definitely eat red meat. Unfortunately, this girl has no red meat in the house at the moment, so I figured I'd try to jazz up some turkey breast. Um, YUM!
For those of you Fixers out there, I counted one burger as 1 yellow (because I used the thin muffins), 1 blue, 1 red, and 1 purple (I ate the rest of the apple.)
Oh, and a tip: get the firmest Granny Smith apples and the sharpest cheddar you can find. The flavor combination is outstanding!
Ingredients:
- 1 pound lean ground turkey breast
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- ½ teaspoon garlic salt
- ½ teaspoon dried sage
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 Granny Smith apple, sliced
- 1 1/2 cup shredded SHARP cheddar cheese
- 6 multigrain light English muffins, split
- Mustard of choice for topping
Directions:
- Combine turkey, onion, spices, and beaten egg. (side note: I find it easiest with my hands)
- Heat skillet on medium high heat. Divide meat mixture into 6 patties.
- Cook burgers until browned on each side and cooked through.
- Toast English muffins.
- Assemble burgers as such: muffin, burger, apple slices, cheese, mustard, and top of muffin.
